I have the honour to transmit herewith

copy of correspondence which has passed batwuen

this Legation and His inj onty's Consul-Ganaral at

Canton on the subject of a possible assumption of

control over the Carton-Kowloon Railway by Sun

Yat-sen's Government,

Kr. Jami enon proposed that in the event

of such assumption the line should be occupied by

British troops from Hongkong in order to safeguard

the interests of the Bondholdere.

I consulted Mr. Mayers, the representative

of the British à Chinese Corporation, which nota sa

trust ge for the Bandholders, and was satisfied that

it would not be to our interest financially to adopt

the measure proposed, quite apart from the serious

political issues which such a step would raise.

the Right Honourable

I have accordingly informed Mr. Jamieson by
